The Basic Workbench gives you access to a bunch of important items for setting up your base. Here are the key items you'll need in your first couple of hours:
Start digging through the walls around you, aiming for any shiny stuff. This will get you some dirt and ore, so craft your furnace at the workbench. That allows you to melt the copper ore to upgrade your pickaxe and craft a sword to take care of some of the slimes you might see nearby.
The melee (and ranged) combat system is fast and hard-hitting, and it gets the job done; I don’t really have any complaints. It’s more enjoyable than swatting down bats and mummies in Stardew Valley
Torch - these are key to being able to see in the dark of the underground. Holding the Shift key temporarily pulls torches, from anywhere in inventory, into the currently selected hot-bar slot, for illumination and placement.
After playing many games like this which have a better storage/crafting system, it's really hard to play this game tbh
They have to farm their gear from mobs, they have to play with the worst AI of any minion I've seen in my life, they only have 3 weapons in the game, where only 1 of them is actually usable because it doesnt have any AI. And they also have some weird synergy with Magic, but this synergy only works if you have magic at around lvl 75, which idk how would you even get to that level in a normal playthrough tbh, especially if you want to Core Keeper Gameplay play with mostly Summon dmg.

Killing Glurch spawns a chest with a few random items and a crystal. Take all of the items (and the chest!), then put the crystal in Glurch's statue near the Core. This will partially power the Core and open up a few new crafting recipes at the Glurch statue.
